See, the community daily_deviant has decided their prompt is "miscenegation". If you are a fortunate soul who has never heard that word until today, see here for a history lesson.

In 1975 my parents (both born and raised in California) had to work to find a priest who would marry them, because daddy's white and mom's Mexican. Yeah, I know, not totally, but when you're dealing with racists, they don't really do things by halves.

In 2002, my sister's fiancee broke up with her, because his Tennessee mother told him she would not allow him to practice miscenegation. Her words.

In my life, it's not an abstract concept. It is something that could have caused me not to exist, and something that caused my sister a great deal of grief.

I think the thing I find most offensive about the whole situation is that, even though it's been pointed out to the DD mods that this is not exactly a word used in polite company, they're insisting they didn't mean it like that. They're making themselves look like ignorant fools who will take a stand on shaky ground rather than suck it up and admit they made a mistake.

I'm not going to get into a race related discussion with you, as we both know where that leads. Although, I don't see why people are so OMG!ENRAGED, I do think the mods definitely needed to find a different word to use. Miscenegation specifically is used in this country to mean race mixing. So, their lame excuse of "Ooops! We didn't mean it that way" is just that... LAME!

Hybridization would have been more accurate and would have saved these poor souls a lot of headache.

Original meaning was mixing of species, but it was coined when racist whites believe that all other races where not homo sapiens. So even when they are right, they are wrong. The whole purpose and point of the word was to describe race mixing.

I know it's offensive and it's not even a term that's ever made its way over here (there are a billion other offensive terms...just not that one).
